I found myself at a fast casual national chain restaurant this week, and my wife threw down a challenge. She told me to try to find inspiration for a homemade meal based on this restaurant’s menu. As I was reading the menu, one dish stuck out to me, and it was because of its inclusion of hot honey.
From there, we got to thinking of what we wanted to do with hot honey…and we figured we’d go back to the Whipped Ricotta well and make a slightly spicy version of our Whipped Ricotta Toast. We picked red pepper flakes to add our heat element, but depending on what you’re going for, we think cayenne or chipotle chili powder would work well too.

Time: 20 Minutes
Ingredients (makes 3 servings):
- 15 oz Ricotta
- A Pinch of Kosher Salt
- Red Pepper Flakes
- 2 Teaspoons of Milk
- Honey
- Baguette or Italian Bread
Method:
- Slice and spread a little butter on your bread. Then, heat it on a griddle to brown.
- Scoop your ricotta into your stand mixer’s bowl.
- Add in your kosher salt, red pepper flakes, and milk. Whip until everything comes together.
- Scoop your ricotta into small bowls.
- Combine a little honey with some red pepper flakes, and heat in the microwave for 10-15 seconds.
- Pour your honey over your ricotta, and plate your bread.
- Devour, and enjoy!

Hot honey is delicious on bacon! I’ve cooked bacon in the oven almost done and brushed some very hot honey onto the bacon and let it finish cooking. It was an amazing flavor combination.
That sounds amazing, especially with the sweet and salty combination! I’m definitely excited to play with more hot honey combinations.
