Broiled Catfish with Spicy Mayonnaise

We probably don’t eat catfish enough. It’s sustainably farmed, and it’s pretty darn tasty and versatile. For this meal, we wanted to mix two classic catfish preparations: Blacked Broiled Catfish and Fried Catfish. So, we breaded our fillets, broiled them, and then added a hot sauce infused mayonnaise as a sauce to give the meal a bit of a kick! If you prefer a crispier catfish, try breading your fillets and pan-frying them instead of roasting.

We served this with Broiled Asparagus (basically, take our Roasted Asparagus recipe, but put your asparagus on the same pan as your fish, and throw it under the broiler…it will char a little on top while the fish cooks) and Roasted Baby Potatoes.

Time: 20 Minutes

Ingredients:

  • Farmed Catfish Fillet
  • A little Salt
  • For the Sauce:

Method:

  • Turn your broiler to high, and set your oven rack on the highest shelf setting.
  • Cut your catfish fillet into the size pieces you like, and then rinse and dry your fish, and place them on a broiling pan. **You’ll want to put some foil down over the bottom pan to make clean-up easier. We forgot to bring our foil to the new house, so we skipped this and had to wash the pan, which felt neolithic at best.
  • Give your catfish a quick olive oil spray, and sprinkle them with salt.
  • Place under the broiler for 7-10 minutes (until the fish flakes easily with a fork and is white in colour).
  • While your fish broils, mix some mayonnaise, hot sauce, and a few squirts of lemon juice in a sauce cup, and stir to fully combine.
  • When your fish is done, remove the pan from the oven, and transfer your fillets to plates. Top with your spicy mayonnaise.
  • Devour, and enjoy!
