Acorn Squash Coconut Dog Treats

We love our dogs, and they love their treats…so we make them fresh treats, and everybody is happy! This particular batch had the natural sweetness of acorn squash, the little crunch from unsweetened coconut flakes, and then some hidden Omega 3s from flax meal to help with their skin and coats. Well, they didn’t mind the fact that these treats are fairly healthy, and they eagerly sit in front of me with perked ears when they think I’m getting them from the fridge.

We think your pup would likely enjoy these…and if they do, check out some of our other Dog Treat Recipes!

Time: 90 Minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 Acorn Squash
  • 2 Tbsps Unsweetened Coconut Flakes
  • 2 Tbsps Flax Meal
  • 3 Tbsps All Purpose Flour

Method:

  • Cut the stem (and very top part) off your acorn squash, and then cut the squash in half. Scoop out the seeds, and discard them.
  • Place your squash halves in a pot, and cover them with water. Boil until soft.
  • Remove your squash from the water, and let cool briefly. Then, use a spoon to scoop the flesh away from the skin (discard the skin).
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F, and line a baking sheet with nonstick foil.
  • Mash the squash with a fork, and then add your other ingredients to the bowl. Stir to combine.
  • Scoop little bits of your dough onto your baking sheet to make the size of dog cookie your pup prefers.
  • Bake for 40 minutes, flipping the cookies about halfway through to ensure even cooking.
  • Let cool on a wire rack.
  • Have your dog sit, devour, and enjoy!
