Homemade Edamame

Our local farm is always experimenting with new crops in their fields, and this year, they had Edamame. When we first saw it, we were extremely excited because these little soy bean pods are delicious, nutritious, fun to eat, and easy to prepare. In fact, we bought a bunch each time they were in stock. From there, we picked them off the stalks, gave them a quick boil, and topped them with a few additional flavours before eating! Of course, eating these is an adventure in and of itself, as you carefully bite down on the pod, causing it to split open…and then you extricate the beans themselves to eat. While you don’t eat the pods themselves, the act of biting down on them gives you the topping flavour to go along with the edamame beans themselves.

We typically serve these as a side dish for our various Stir Fries. That said, these also make for a fantastic appetizer.
