Buffalo Soya Chaap “Wings”

In the early fall of 2024, my wife and I had our first taste of Soya Chaap at a banquet, and we loved it. It’s essentially a mix of soy flour and wheat flower paste that gets wrapped in layers around a short popsicle stick. It takes on whatever flavours you impart, which makes it great in Curries.

Fast forward a few months from that banquet, and my wife and I found ourselves at an Indian supermarket after a yoga class that nearly killed me due as a result of its focus on abs. She found some soya chaap in one of the aisles, and we decided to buy it and try cooking with it. Once we got to play with it in our own kitchen, we started to get ideas! While on the stick, they looked a little like a chicken wing (with an inedible plant based bone, even)…so we made a mental note to buy more and cook them like a vegetarian Buffalo wing at some point. Naturally, the NFL draft became that natural “some point.”

These wings came out exactly as we’d hoped, so if you’re looking for a good vegetarian alternative to Buffalo wings, give these a shot! Also, GO BILLS!
