Here’s another post for our canine friends and blog followers! The idea for these came from two primary factors:
- Samuel (our English Pointer) hates raw blueberry but loved the Blueberry Pumpkin Dog Treats I made for him. He hates raw carrots, but he couldn’t get enough of the Roasted Carrot Dog Biscuits. Well, guess who hates raw apple! Applying the concept of “cooking it makes him love it,” we decided to give apples a try.
- We have a fantastic pet store near us with a lot of great treat options…and looking for different ingredients that are safe for dogs and that appear frequently in those packages (implying that dogs like them). Cinnamon was a winner, and since it goes well with apple, the idea was born.
The end result of these two factors was a set of dog cookies that our dogs absolutely and vigorously devour! If I’m in a different room from them, and I say, “Who wants a cookie?” I instantly hear pitter-pattering until two expectant dogs are sitting right in front of me. Then, they just kind of hover around me after for a while hoping I’ll magically produce more.
Time: 70 Minutes
Ingredients:
- An Apple
- A splash of Water
- 2 Tablespoons Flax Meal
- 1/4 Cup of Flour
- Cinnamon
Method:
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F, line a baking sheet with a little foil, and then give the foil a quick oil spray to prevent sticking later.
- Core your apple. Discard the core, and chop your apple into small cubes.
- Pulse your apple (adding a little water as necessary) in your food processor to break it into very small pieces.
- Transfer your nearly pureed apple to a mixing bowl, and sprinkle in your cinnamon. Then, add in your flax meal and flour, and stir to fully combine.
- Scoop your mixture onto your baking sheet in the size you’d like your treats to be.
- Bake for about 25 minutes. Then, flip your treats, and bake for another 25 minutes.
- Remove from the oven, and allow to cool on a rack.
- Have your dog(s) sit, devour, and enjoy!
