Grilled Okra

When I think of Okra, my mind pretty much immediately goes to Cajun or Southern BBQ. For this recipe, my mind went Southern BBQ (Spicy Peach Pork BBQ). Most of the time, we slice and sautee our okra, but since we already had the grill fired up for pork, we figured we should try grilling the okra too. Man, was it good…and easy. We will definitely be making this again when we need a tasty and fast side dish for a grilled entree. I hope you enjoy!

Time: 15 Minutes

Ingredients:

  • Okra
  • Salt
  • Olive Oil

Method:

  • Preheat your grill.
  • Wash and cut the ends of the stems off your okra, leaving a little still attached (leaving the pods closed allows the veggie to steam from the inside).
  • Impale your okra on a kabob skewer, and brush or spray a little olive oil on the top and bottom. Then, give your okra a little salt sprinkle.
  • Put your skewers on the grill, and let the okra cook for about 5 minutes. Flip, and let it cook for another 5 minutes.
  • Plate, devour, and enjoy!

  1. No like for this. Sorry – I hate Okra! I even attempted to like/cook it, but there was no way to get rid of the gelatinous inside. Too much for me. Gumbo without forever!

    1. That’s fair. It can be an acquired taste/texture for sure. We’ve got a couple more recipes coming soon that use okra, but it’s much more of a “hidden” ingredient. You probably won’t like them, but hopefully, they’re at least intriguing!
